PIERCING AFTERCARE
INSTRUCTIONS

Please follow these instructions to ensure your tattoo heals properly. We do sell exclusively REBORN TATTOO CARE at the shop.

Feel free to visit, call or email us with any additional questions.

BANDAGE AFTERCARE

  • Leave the bandage on as instructed by your artist (usually 1-2 hours).

  • When the bandage is removed, gently wash the tattoo immediately with an unscented antibacterial soap and warm water.

  • 2 to 3 times a day for 2 weeks:
Use your hands to gently wash the tattoo with an unscented antibacterial soap and warm water.
Pat dry with clean towel. DO NOT RUB.
apply a thin layer of unscented lotion (whatever your artist recommends) after each time you wash.

  • After a few days, the skin will begin to form a scab. Do NOT pick or scratch at it.

  • Wash the tattoo immediately if it’s been exposed to dirt or sweat.

  • Do not use Vaseline, Neosporin, Aquaphor or any similar products. They are heavy and can prolong healing.

  • Avoid fragranced products or essential oils.

  • Shower like normal, but avoid bathing (submerging/soaking the tattoo), and recreational water activities for 2 weeks. This includes swimming pools, oceans, hot tubs, saunas, etc. which carry harsh chemicals and/or highly infectious bacteria.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure to the tattooed area for 2 weeks.

  • Avoid direct contact of the tattooed area with animals for 2 weeks.

  • Implement the application of sunscreen on your tattooed skin into your daily routine for years to come, to avoid UV damage which causes premature fading.

  • Depending on the location, your tattoo will be fully healed in 2 to 4 weeks.

DERM INSTRUCTIONS (2ND SKIN)

  • Gently clean and pat dry the tattoo and surrounding area, ensuring there is no soap or any residue on the skin.

  • Cut the Derm Shield to cover tattooed area plus a 1”–2” margin from the edge of the tattoo.

  • Peel off backing and position the Derm Shield over tattoo with the adhesive side facing the skin.

  • Gently apply using light pressure, starting from the center to the edges to eliminate air bubbles. Do not stretch the Derm Shield during application.

  • The first Derm Shield application should stay in place for 24 hours, depending on level of exudation. It is normal for blood and fluids to collect under the bandage. A second application can be used for several days, and a third application may be used if necessary.

  • Gently clean and dry the area between applications. Do not wear any piece longer than one week.

  • To remove, gently peel the Derm Shield by pulling it slowly from the edge back over itself. Avoid pulling upwards.

  • TO REMOVE - To remove, gently peel the Derm Shield by pulling it slowly from the edge back over itself. Avoid pulling upwards.

  • CAUTION - For external use only. Use only as directed. Do not apply to infected wounds. This product contains adhesives and may cause allergic reactions in people with adhesive allergies. If allergic reaction or any irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately. Consult a physician if reaction or irritation is severe.

Proper aftercare is essential for healing and preventing complications. Please follow the instructions below carefully.

JEWELRY

    •    Do not change or remove your jewelry for at least 2 months, unless instructed by your                     piercer or a medical professional.

GENERAL CARE

    •    Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing.

    •    Clean your piercing twice daily using a sterile saline solution for at least 2 months.

CLEANING METHODS

    •    If you are using a fine mist saline spray, you may spray it directly onto the piercing and                   allow it to air dry, as long as there is no crust buildup.

    •    If you notice crusties or if your spray has a stronger stream:

    •    Use a clean Q-tip soaked in saline solution.

    •    Gently clean around the jewelry and remove any buildup.

    •    Do not twist or force the jewelry.

REDNESS OR INFLAMMATION

    •    Mild redness or tenderness can be normal during healing.

    •    If redness or inflammation occurs:

    •    Your first line of defense is saline soaks.

    •    Soak a clean paper towel in saline solution and apply it to the piercing for 15 minutes once             per day.

    •    Do not do saline soaks during the first 3 days after receiving your piercing.

    •    If you have concerns, feel free to reach out to your piercer for guidance.

INFECTION

    •    If you suspect an infection, contact your piercer or a medical professional immediately.

    •    Infections are typically very painful, swollen, hot, and may produce thick discharge.

    •    Do NOT remove the jewelry at home, as this can trap the infection and make it worse.

REJECTION

    •    Rejection occurs when the body pushes the jewelry out as a foreign object.

    •    Signs of rejection include significant movement of the jewelry, thinning skin, or increased               visibility of the bar.

    •    If you notice these signs, contact your piercer as soon as possible so they can evaluate                    whether removal is necessary.
